STORIES OF CHANGEMAKERS

PATRYK GOLBA-ZAWADZKI

I started my "adventure" in social activities with school volunteer and interest circles in elementary school.

Since I was a child, I have been fascinated by the phenomenon of changing the world through individual figures. In my family, social activity is a normal thing, but perhaps one of the more interesting stimuli was the close acquaintance, as an 11-year-old, of General Tadeusz Bienkowicz, who became for me a model of a man of action.

Interestingly, I was a rather shy child. I preferred to spend time with people much older than myself than peers. Therefore, an important stage was for me to participate in the Cracow Academy of Self-Governance. I was 14 years old at the time, and at KAS I learned to use the tools of civic participation,  I learned about youth community councils and learned about Oxford debates. Everything I learned then became an area of my interest and activities. Already in middle school we translated this into our student government by organizing inter-class and inter-high school oxford debates and District Days.
Already as a high school student I was appointed to the Youth Council of Krakow. This is when I had the most dynamic period of my character development. It was also definitely a sine wave of numerous experiences, which taught me to control
stress and not to give up.
The culmination of my early activities became the Youth Parliament of the Lesser Poland Region. I initiated the establishment of it, as an 18-year-old, writing the resolution, Statute and soliciting on my own, which eventually brought about its establishment after 3 years and half a year.
And why do I act? A painter paints pictures, a sculptor sculpts, a musician plays or sings. By these means they show their emotions and needs, and as a result they create something that makes existence real. It is the same with social activities.
